Thanks Ian — you just quoted one of my favorite all-time lines from any hymn! I always feel like putting my hand up when we get to that line — that’s ME 🙂

When it comes to grace and God’s grace it is truly astonishing. It is sometimes something that we cannot comprehend. There is a Christian hymn, To God be the glory and one of the lines is and churches sing this with great gusto “The vilest offender who truly believes, that moment from Jesus, a pardon receives. I found this as well. The touching words say, “The vilest offender who truly believes, That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.” If that man cried out to God and asked for forgiveness, he was free from his sin. Regardless of the magnitude of his sins, all he has to do is simply believe in the Son of God and ask for forgiveness and he will receive a pardon from Jesus.

When that hymn is sung, I feel like shouting sometimes, STOP! The vilest offender Yes, The vilest offender. And you could think of names who would fit into the category of the “vilest offender” from a human viewpoint, we start to ask, How can that person be forgiven when they have done XYZ.

But God says in his word, that his ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. We in our humaneness are looking at grace from OUR own perspective, and not from God’s perspective.

That is Grace — it is outrageous it is astonishing

Hi. I think grace as in peace and living in harmony .…. certainly exists within Hinduism.
However, the Christian notion of grace as forgiveness extended to one who does not deserve to be forgiven does not

Stanley Jones who led many Hindu intellectuals to Christ, this article is greatly inspiring

 https://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2021/july-web-only/chris-goswami-experiment-christianity-hindu-india-grace.html

This has come up before in other pieces in @CTmagazine about Hinduism.

“When people properly glorify the Supreme Personality of Godhead or simply hear about His power, the Lord personally enters their hearts and cleanses away every trace of misfortune, just as the sun removes the darkness or as a powerful wind drives away the clouds.”

Hi Christina — you have nailed an important point. In fact my church Leadership jhas been wrestling with the whole idea of “dunking V sprinkling” for months I think, I hope, we have finally arrived at a place where we maintain the Baptist tradition of full immersion wherever possible (it isn’t always possible), but we recognise other, non-immersion, trinitarian, forms of baptism.
In other words, immersion is great, but ultimately God cares about our hearts, not quantities of water!
